Chinese auto giant BYD is on track to open a chip factory in October in the central Chinese city of Changsha, according to a report by state-owned media outlet Hunan Today on Sept. 7. The plant will produce as many as 500,000 automotive chips based on an 8-inch wafer annually and is expected to make revenues of RMB 800 million and profit of RMB 40 million at most each year, according to Hunan Today.
